Christmas with Friends
Light of the World
Dec 22, 2019 | Matthew Cork
Christmas is a time of nostalgia. The lights, the tree, the presents… it is obvious that we are drawn to Christmas by the fact that it creeps earlier and earlier every year. But is it Christmas that we truly are drawn to? Or is the One at Christmas who is the object of our longing?
The Bible makes it clear that all people are searching for something. Herod, the king at the time of Jesus, was definitely searching for something himself. He wanted power, rule, and fame. Jesus was a threat to all of that, and so he sent some people to try and kill Jesus. Fortunately, however, God protected Jesus. And now Herod is simply a footnote in the story of God—he is only told in relation to His relationship to Jesus.
One day, that’s going to be the case for all of us. Our significance in this world is going to be solely in relation to our relationship with Jesus, our King. The truth is, we need Jesus. We are drawn to so many other things in order to make our mark and find satisfaction. But there is nothing that fulfills and satisfies like Jesus. We need to turn to Him this season, because all of life will one day come down to how we responded to Jesus. Are we ready to focus on Him?
